Title: Anomalous velocity of massless spinning particles
Speaker: Professor Mike Stone, UIUC
Abstract: Luttinger and Blount introduced the ``anomalous velocity'' as a concept in Band theory. It is now understood as a Berry phase effect and has many applications in solid state physics. In this talk we will examine what happens when we extend the idea to relativistic systems, and make contact with old ideas of Wigner.
