Description:

Dare to Disappoint: Growing up in Turkey is a graphic memoir published by Farrar Straus Giroux in 2015. The author of the book will read a chapter entitled Pink Ruler and explain the impact of the political dynamics of 80s and 90s on the middle class. The creation process of this graphic novel includes experimental approaches and unexpected materials. This talk will also look into the relationship between materials and meaning.

Ozge Samanci has an extensive background in comics and media arts and is a published comics artist. Her interactive-digital media installations and other collaborative works have been exhibited in numerous venues internationally. Samanci is an assistant professor in the Radio TV Film Department of Northwestern University.
