Faculty UTR - Crazy Assignments: Larks in Assessment
The gold-standard of evaluation for most undergraduate courses in the humanities and social sciences is an analytical paper that asks students to make an argument and support it with persuasive evidence. But is it possible to achieve the same goals -- or equally valuable ones -- through other means? A creative assignment skeptic describes her own reluctant and late conversion to the world of scavenger hunts, made-up diaries and even costume construction. Bring your ideas for unconventional assignments. We'll talk about the perils as well as the rewards of these sorts of unorthodox methods of assessment.
Led by Deborah Cohen, Peter B. Ritzma Professor of History, Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences
