Microbiology-Immunology Seminar Series
"Natural killer (NK) cells can provide rapid responses to viral infections and NK cell mobilization has been linked to virus control in HIV disease. Conversely, HIV has evolved mechanisms to evade NK cell surveillance and long-term infection can result in excess NK cell activation leading to pathologic tissue damage and eventually NK cell exhaustion. This seminar will present recent findings from our lab exploring the reciprocal interaction between NK cells and HIV and SIV infections, including the more recently described phenomenon of NK cell memory."
