Title: The Discovery of Pulsars and their Extreme Physics
Speaker: Jocelyn Bell Burnell, University of Oxford
Host: Farhad Zadeh
Abstract:
In this talk I will describe how pulsars came to be discovered and discuss their main physical properties. With high densities, relativisitc speeds,
large gravitational forces, and strong electric and magnetic fields, fully understanding these objects is a challenge.
Through these extremes pulsars are useful objects for testing theories of relativity and gravitatio, and (time permitting) I will describe some of these tests.
