Description:

In the fields of sustainability and energy, engineers are on the front lines when it comes to turning abstract ideas into innovative solutions. With this in mind, the Institute for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern (ISEN) is partnering with the McCormick School of Engineering Global Initiatives Office to create a new tech immersion program for freshmen based in Heidelberg, Germany.

Immediately prior to the start of their sophomore year in the Fall Quarter 2017, students will travel to the "Technologiepark," a technology incubator for startup companies working on the general theme of sustainability and energy. In addition to visiting companies and research universities in Heidelberg, Stuttgart, and Frankfurt, participants will gain exposure to global internship and job opportunities including those related to biotech, organic photovoltaics, and sustainable production chains. It is important to note that participants do not receive academic credit for this program.
