Please join us for a talk on "We Come to Witness: Art as Politics for Indigenous Rights in Canada" by Canadian artist Sonny Assu.
The impetus behind Sonny Assu’s work is to shed light on the dark, hidden history of Canada's actions and inactions against the Indigenous people. “Even though the subject matter can be heavy at times,” says artist Sonny Assu, Liǥwildaʼx̱w of the Kwakwaka’wakw nations, "I try and find avenues of compassion and humour to foster a dialogue and to broaden people’s understanding of the realities of being an Indigenous person in Canada."
This talk is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the event.
Sponsored by: The Alumnae of Northwestern University
