Summary: The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) within the U.S. Department of Energy advances high-potential, high-impact energy technologies that are too early for private-sector investment. Projects provide top energy researchers with funding, technical assistance, and market advice to radically improve U.S. economic security, national security, and environmental well-being. The session will provide an introduction to the process the agency uses to develop funding opportunities, will discuss upcoming ARPA-E funding announcements, and opportunities for employment as a technical Fellow or Tech-to-Market advisor.

Speaker Bio: Kristen is a Fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy. She identifies new opportunities to reduce the long-term and high-risk technological barriers in the development of transformative energy technologies. She has experience sourcing and evaluating technologies across diverse sectors, including power generation, chemical storage, and energy efficiency. Kristen received her PhD in Chemistry with Prof. Michael Wasielewski and was awarded the Northwestern Presidential Fellowship. Kristen also served as graduate co-director of the Northwestern Energy and Sustainability Consortium, co-founded The Association for Women in Chemistry, and helped design a peer-mentorship program for the chemistry department. She has a BS in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
