Description:

University Teaching Roundtable: Design Thinking in the Classroom
Date: Monday, April 10, 2017
Time: 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Design is a key area of investment within NU’s strategic plan. While many associate design, and design thinking skills, with the McCormick School of Engineering,  Professors Gatchell and Gernand will use this workshop to reveal just how universally applicable the design process is for all students at NU. By exploring how design thinking is applied within the McCormick school, specifically within the Segal Design Institute, Professor Gatchell will provide a framework for discussing this iterative approach to problem solving.  As a follow-up, Professor Gernand will describe how design thinking readily maps onto the project work that his students perform as RTVF majors within the School of Communications. Workshop participants will then work in groups to reflect on their own courses to uncover how design thinking can influence, and is already influencing, the work that their students do in their classes. By uncovering how steps in the design process are universally applicable across all schools, this workshop will serve as a key step toward realizing design thinking for all NU students.

Light refreshments will be provided.

**IMPORTANT LOCATION NOTE: Due to popular demand, we moved this event to the Great Room on 600 Haven Street (Just off Sheridan Road and Haven (intersection in front of Tech).
