Wikipedia is most people's first source for information, but it's information on Africa is woefully deficient, and the African 10,000 Challenge aims to change that. Luckily, Northwestern is home to one of the greatest collection of sources of African related materials.
Using the Herskovits Library of African Studies, we will add content about Peoples and Cultures (clans, ethnic groups, linguistic categories, etc.) of Africa to Wikipedia. A wide array of sources will be provided for you to consult and get content from. Just pick one or more sources, explore a topic that interests you, write a brief or detailed article about that topic (whatever works for you), and add/cite your sources. It’s that easy! No prior experience or subject expertise needed. Perhaps this may spark your interest and form a basis for further research or study.
We will give a brief introduction to creating Wikipedia articles. You may create a Wikipedia account beforehand, or we can help you create one during the session. Write as many articles as you like. You can revisit them in the future and keep writing too. Let’s have fun!
Senagalise cuisine provided!
