Workshop Description:

Because individuals with diverse perspectives and backgrounds interact in the classroom and workplace, conflict can arise. Personal identity and experiences can affect how conflict and interventions are perceived. This workshop will give graduate students and postdocs a chance to grapple with scenarios and strategies to develop personalized tools for managing conflict. We will: 1) discuss case studies involving student-student and student-instructor interactions, 2) develop personalized strategies for engaging conflict as TAs and lead instructors, and 3) empower graduate students to transform conflicts into teaching moments for their students, colleagues, and themselves.

Workshop Facilitators:

Amanda is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in History, specializing in nineteenth century U.S. history. She has TA'd for various courses in the history department and was a Teagle Teaching Fellow for the department in 2013-2014.

Miriam Piilonen is a Music Theory and Cognition Ph.D. candidate specializing in the history of music theory and its scientific, philosophical, and social contexts.
