How can you use Voyant Tools to improve your students’ close reading and writing skills? Dr. McManus and Dr. Stahl present how they use the "web-based reading and analysis environment for digital texts" to teach "Physionomies parisiennes," a chapter from Balzac's The Girl with the Golden Eyes in an advanced French literature course. The "distanced reading" of text visualization enables students to focus more attentively on the form and content of the text. Then, when visualizing their own essay on the reading, students realize the need for revisions that equally emphasize what and how they write.

Coffee and pastries will be served.

Co-sponsored by the Council on Language Instruction and the Media & Design Studio
