Title: Neutrino Oscillations in Quantum Field Theory
Speaker: Andrew Kobach, UC San Diego
Abstract: I will discuss some of the technical aspects of calculating the oscillation behavior of neutrinos using quantum field theory. We find that these oscillations are fairly robust, due to a hierarchy of scales: the energy of the neutrinos are much larger than their mass, and their mass is much larger than the inverse distance propagated. There are a few mechanisms that turn off the oscillations, drawing parallels to optics.
