The Global Café is excited to host Alyssa Lynne, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology!

Alyssa Lynne is a Doctoral student in the Department of Sociology and a Mellon Cluster Fellow in Gender and Sexuality Studies at Northwestern University. Alyssa became interested in gender and sexuality studies while conducting a independent research project with a LGBT nonprofit organization in Quito, Ecuador. Before beginning graduate school, her experience working as an Affordable Care Act navigator led to a specific interest in structural factors influencing the medical decision-making process for transgender individuals. Her current research focuses on Thai kathoey, who are variously labeled as “second-kind-of-woman,” “third gender,” or “male-to-female transgender woman.”

Dinner will be provided.
