U.S. battery startups have largely failed, even when supported by marquee investors such as Bill Gates. This talk will explore the intertwined technical and economic reasons for these failures. It will also propose a new approach: that lessons from the pharmaceutical industry can be applied to the battery market to help startups succeed. This presentation will focus on practical steps that technologists and entrepreneurs can adopt given current market realities.

Eve is a Ph.D. candidate in Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. Her research encompasses both fundamental nanoscale science and materials commercialization and has been highlighted by news sources such as IEEE Spectrum, Greentech Media, and the Materials Research Society. Prior to graduate school, she was a Business Consultant with data analytics firm Applied Predictive Technologies, delivering strategic recommendations to C-level executives at Fortune 500 firms. Eve holds a certificate in Management from the Kellogg School of Management and a B.A. in Chemistry from Princeton University.
