Students are often expected to think critically, yet instructors can struggle with articulating what “critical thinking” means in their disciplines and how to engage students in thinking critically. In this workshop, we will explore educational frameworks that inform student cognitive development and discuss examples of critical thinking in a variety of disciplines. Participants will work together to address a series of assumptions connected to critical thinking, while simultaneously engaging in a range of critical thinking strategies. We will highlight how connecting with others, as well as being open to doubt and risk, is crucial to learning.
