Johnnetta Betsch Cole is a prominenet Northwestern and Program of African Studies alum. She earned her MA (1959) and PhD (1967) degrees here in anthropology. She did her dissertation field research in Liberia in 1960–1961, and her dissertation was titled “Traditional and Wage Earning Labor among Tribal Liberians.”
During Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, she will be honored with a Northwestern Alumni Medal - the highest honor given by the Northwestern Alumni Association.
