The circular economy is a burgeoning movement that looks beyond the current “take, make and dispose” extractive industrial model, towards a regenerative one. Plant Chicago and 57st. design are two Chicago businesses using principles of the Circular Economy to develop thriving business models that design waste out of their respective industries. In response to Chicago Design Weeks’s theme of the “The Evolving State of Design,” Plant Chicago and 57st. design are hosting a panel discussion of their specific approaches to system and service design that make this alternative approach viable.

Proceeds support Plant Chicago programming and provide refreshments for the event.

About 57st. design: 57st. design is a direct-to-consumer furniture brand based in Chicago. With a focus on contemporary-modern, hardwood furniture, 57st. design designs, manufactures, and retails (via its e-commerce site) all of its work in-house, and all from its workshop on the Southside. In early 2018, 57st. design launched Design Circulation, a service to take back, restore, and recirculate their furniture.
