Rachmaninoff composed his All-Night Vigil in 1915. By 1919 Russia’s new Bolshevik government had begun a systematic persecution of the Russian Orthodox Church, and the work was not performed again in Russia for nearly 70 years. The University Chorale presents this Russian romantic master¬piece, a time capsule from czarist Russia of the World War I era.
