The use of porcine islets may provide an alternative and sustainable source for xenogeneic islet transplantation as a therapy for Type 1 Diabetes. Using a humanized mouse model, we examine the human cellular immune response to porcine islet transplantation. By analyzing rejection kinetics we gain a better understanding of key immune responses that reflect human xenorejection and can develop strategic immunosuppressive or tolerance therapies for clinical applications.
