Monday Observational Meetings for Northwestern University's Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA), this week featuring:
Charlie Telesco (University of Florida, On sabbatical at University of Chicago)
Title: Mid-IR Astronomy with the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC)
Abstract: CanariCam is the facility mid-IR multi-mode camera developed by Telesco and his team at U. Florida (UF) for the GTC, the world’s largest optical-IR telescope. UF is a partner with Spain and Mexico in the GTC. CanariCam has been operational scientifically since 2012, although it was removed from the telescope in late 2016 for maintenance and upgrades and to free the Nasmyth-A focal station for another instrument. It will be remounted on the telescope in May 2019, just a few weeks from now. I will present highlights of the imaging, spectroscopic, and polarimetric science results thus far, and describe some plans for future observations.
