Title: Beyond Bacteria: Bacterial Viruses in the Urinary Tract
Associate Professor, Loyola University, Chicago
Host: Nicholas Cianciotto, PhD
Topic:
Bacteriophages are the most abundant component of the human virome and vital members of microbiota. Phages have been isolated directly from urine samples and metagenomic sequencing of urine samples have identified an abundance of primarily novel phages. In addition to characterizing these phage, the Putonti lab is now exploring how phages shape bacterial communities in the urinary tract and their putative role in benign urinary disease.
