The Northwestern University community is invited to an open forum panel discussion that will prepare journalists for working in Indigenous communities to push reporters past (stereo)typical coverage toward stories that enlighten both Native and non-Native audiences. The discussion will focus on the use of data, ethics and three-dimensional coverage to move newsrooms from viewing Native people as subjects of reporting, to understanding them as an engaged audience.
The panel will be moderated by CNAIR Director Dr. Patty Loew, and feature presenters: NAJA President Tristan Ahtone, NAJA Vice President Dr. Victoria LaPoe, and NAJA board member Graham Brewer.
This event is sponsored by Northwestern's Center for Native American and Indigenous Research (CNAIR), Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, and the Native American Journalists Association (NAJA).
