Title: From One-Hit Wonder to Rock Icon: Three New Non-Canonical Roles for Natural Killer Cells in Health and Disease
Stephen Waggoner, PhD, University of Cincinnati
Host: Pablo Penaloza-MacMaster
Topic:
Our lab focuses on non-canonical functions of natural killer cells in immunization, infection and disease. Recent revelations to be discussed include: 1) a role for NK cells in maintenance of the marginal zone during chronic virus infection to prevent fatal secondary bacterial infections, 2) NK cell suppression of HIV vaccine efficacy, 3) molecular mechanisms of NK-cell immunoregulatory function, and 4) therapeutic harnessing of NK cells to ameliorate autoimmune disease.
