Title: Auto-Inhibitory Integrin Activation During Human Neutrophil Arrest
Speaker: Zhichao Fan, PhD, La Jolla Institute of Immunology
Host: Chyung-Ru Wang, PhD
Topic:
Integrins are critical for leukocyte recruitment and functions in inflammation. Using advanced imaging techniques, I discovered an alternative pathway of integrin activation and an auto-inhibitor mechanism of leukocyte adhesion and inflammation. By super-resolution microscopy, I find unique patterns of integrin molecular orientations. Using high-throughput screening, I discovered small molecular drugs that keep integrins in the auto-inhibitory conformation, which have potentials in treating inflammatory diseases.
