Description:

Patient data and referral patterns tell us community practitioners may be unaware of the recent advances in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients. It can be difficult for the busy practitioner to take time away from their practice to learn what is new, including changes to the guidelines in the management of acute ischemic stroke, clinical trials and the new criteria for imaging.

The 2019 Northwestern Medicine Comprehensive Stroke and Cerebrovascular Conference offers busy providers the opportunity to improve their knowledge in stroke diagnosis and management in a convenient one-day course. Recently published findings and guidelines for treating patients for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke will be discussed in detail, as well as other current measures to treat and manage strokes quickly and effectively to mitigate damage.

Participants will hear from expert clinician leaders from Northwestern Medicine regarding the advances in stroke medicine. We are also excited to welcome our guest speaker, Colin Derdeyn, MD, Krabbenhoft Chair in Radiology and director of the Iowa Institute of Biomedical Imaging at University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.

This course is designed for all healthcare providers managing patients following stroke, including emergency medicine specialists, cardiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, advanced care providers, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, social workers and allied health professionals.
