A program of operatic excerpts and instrumental dance suites composed in honor of Empress Margarita Teresa of Spain. A stellar string band and vocal soloists will perform excerpts from Antonio Cesti’s Il pomo d’oro, originally written to celebrate the marriage of Margarita Teresa to Emperor Leopold I. The program will also include instrumental interludes by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer and scenes from a hilarious intermezzo, , said to have been composed by Emperor Leopold I himself.
