Description:

University Teaching Roundtable (UTR): TEACHING ABOUT ATROCITY

In this University Teaching Roundtable, Danny M. Cohen will lead discussion on teaching about atrocity. How does content about violence, injustice, and human suffering change how we think about learning and teaching in higher education? When we teach about war, genocide, or oppression, how can certain common teaching practices - like simulation, debate, and role play - become barriers to student learning? In this interactive, practical session, we will explore how and why content about violence requires us to rethink our pedagogies, including creating assignments, facilitating class discussions, and teaching writing.

*Registration Required. Please register

D., a learning scientist and Charles Deering McCormick Distinguished Professor of Instruction in the School of Education and Social Policy and The Crown Family Center for Jewish and Israel Studies.
