Join Health Professions Advising as we welcome Dr. Kenneth L. Wilson for a conversation about his path to a decorated career in medicine.
Dr. Wilson is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery and Deputy Trauma Director at the University of Chicago and has more than a decade of experience as a trauma and critical care surgeon. He is also a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, having completed eight overseas deployments (including to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Tanzania) during a 17-year military career.
After earning an MD from Howard University School of Medicine in 1996, Dr. (Col) Wilson went on to a surgical residency at Morehouse School of Medicine before completing a Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. As a civilian, Dr. Wilson has served as Chief od Trauma in the Department of Surgery at Morehouse, Director of Pediatric Trauma at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI, and Director of the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety program at University of Chicago Hospital Systems, among many other appointments. Dr. Wilson is also an active researcher with nearly 30 peer-revied publication in the primary literature, including on the subjects of military trauma and trauma surgical outcomes.
Also joining the conversation is Second Lieutenant Juan Ariza, who is currently in his final year of medical school with the assistance of the Army's Health Professions Scholarship Program. Lt. Ariza will speak to his experiences as a medical student and as an HPSP recipient training for a career in medicine and the military.
*This event is open to current Northwestern undergraduates and alumni.
