Workshop Description:

When we hear the term “teaching evaluation,” we are quick to think of two things: CTECs and the end of the term. In this workshop, we will approach teaching evaluations more holistically, focusing on those evaluative methods which can be used to improve specific aspects of a course while you are still teaching it. We will compare and analyze multiple methods for collecting evaluative feedback on our teaching, identifying ways to use evaluations to enhance student learning, create more comfortable learning environments, and make our instruction more responsive to student needs. Participants will also develop their own evaluation strategy to address a specific aspect of their own teaching.

Workshop Facilitators:

Chris Mizzi is a fifth-year PhD candidate in Materials Science and Engineering and a current Graduate Teaching Fellow. At Northwestern he served as TA for graduate MSE courses, participated in Mentored Discussions of Teaching, and completed Searle’s Teaching Certificate Program.

Carter Moulton is a fourth-year PhD candidate in Screen Cultures and a current Graduate Teaching Fellow. Prior to working as a TA at Northwestern, he taught composition at the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He also serves as head of the School of Communication Teaching Training Committee and as a Teaching Consultant for the Searle Center.
