Description:

Our prior studies show that the secreted protein apoA-I binding protein (AIBP) accelerates cholesterol efflux in endothelial cells (ECs) and limits angiogenesis in zebrafish by regulating lipid raft-anchored VEGFR2 signaling (Nature 2013). We further explored the role of AIBP in regulating murine retinal angiogenesis, and found that AIBP increases Notch signaling in ECs, which suppresses angiogenesis by counteracting VEGFR2 pathway (Circ Res 2017). We further investigated the role of AIBP-mediated cholesterol efflux in developmental hematopoiesis, which is closely associated with the endothelium. We found that AIBP-mediated SREBP2 dependent Notch signaling regulates hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell specification in development and expansion in hyperlipidemia (Science 2019). We aim to translate the findings made in animals into future therapies for patients.
