How can we build upon our students knowledge and experiences to promote engagement and transformation? Tapping into our contemplative senses during the implementation of humanizing pedagogy is one approach. Humanizing pedagogy fosters problem-posing education where students are co-investigators in dialogue with their teachers (Salzar, 2013). In this experiential workshop, attendees will learn about and conduct contemplative practices (i.e. deep listening and beholding) that will help instructors center critical consciousness (awareness of social, political, and economic contradictions) and humanizing pedagogy in their classrooms. By using our senses to become more in tune with the dynamics of our learning environments, we may be of better service to our students during their educational and developmental journey.
