Description:

Most of the teachers you take courses from at Northwestern either have “tenure” or are on a “tenure-track” (they will be evaluated and either receive tenure  or leave).  Although tenure is not a guarantee of lifetime employment, it nonetheless involves a high degree of job security (far more than other professions or lines of work).  Why should university faculty be treated this way?  What are its good or bad consequences?   On what basis does Northwestern make decisions about granting or denying tenure?  Do students have any input in this process?  How does the system affect the quality of your education?

Brady Director, Professor Richard Kraut will lead our discussion
