Description:

Please join us in the Cycle Center for an open conversation about talking with our young children about the local and global challenges impacting all of us. Many of us have and/or care deeply about young children, and we know that they are actively processing and asking questions about complex and interconnected issues including politics, war, the economy, and climate degradation. Responding to these questions is no small task. Further, for some of us these conversations have a heightened sense of personal urgency because we have families facing increasingly dangerous realities. Our discussion can be inspired by Shirin Vossoughi's Reflections for diasporic Iranian families and educators about how to support our children during this time and the op-ed As Tensions With Iran Escalate, It Is Time to Challenge Empire in the Classroom written by Shirin Vossoughi and Sepehr Vakil along with Roozbeh Shirazi of the University of Minnesota. In addition to being a supportive space for acknowledging how hard this work can be, we hope this conversation can also serve as an idea-generating opportunity for thinking about how we can engage our young people in activism and acts of solidarity. Feel free to bring your lunch!
