Seminar Title: Transcriptional Coactivators in Human Adenovirus Biology and Much More…
Speaker: Bayar Thimmapaya, PhD / Professor, Dept. of Microbiology-Immunology
Topic:
Members of the human Adenoviridae (Ad) family, a group of non-enveloped viruses are human pathogens that are associated with a wide a variety of clinical syndromes, including common cold, eye infections such as epidemic keratoconjunctivitis and pharyngoconjunctival fever, gastrointestinal infections and pneumonia in children that can be fatal at times. Ad infection can be life threatening to immunocompromised patients. Outbreak of different members of Adenoviridae have occurred from time to time in different parts of the US in the past that resulted in severe illnesses and deaths. These and other occasional flare ups of this virus indicate that studies of this virus pathogen is important. In this seminar, our recent results pertaining to the roles played by the transcriptional coactivators in Ad viral and cellular gene expression and virus-host cell interactions will be presented. In addition, the role of coactivators in other mammalian gene expressions will also be presented.
