Maps and geographic information systems (GIS) are critically important tools for understanding racism and inequities. This workshop will explore the use of GIS systems to create a map with a narrative, or a StoryMap, to help illustrate changes across space and time. For example, we will explore important historical moments that have led from slavery to modern social problems involving interaction with the police.
GIS (ARCGIS by ESRI) is available, without charge, to all members of the Northwestern community, and learning to use these systems can facilitate research on many problems in the social sciences, education, and the humanities. The program is co-sponsored by the Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center (SILC) and the Northwestern Libraries. All members of the Northwestern community are welcome. RSVP is required to obtain Zoom meeting information.
