Scope: Uncertainty quantification is an important component of material and process design. Over the last decade, new theoretical and computational methods such as machine learning and Bayesian optimization have emerged as powerful approaches to evaluating uncertainty of material property models and attaching confidence intervals to computational predictions. “Design with uncertainty” is on the verge of transforming material innovation in science and technology.
