Global Café is a great resource and opportunity for students to connect with graduate student mentors to acquire the tools and resources necessary for conducting independent research, applying for grants or fellowships, writing an honors thesis, applying to graduate school, and more. The Global Café Event Series features conversations with unique, diverse speakers each quarter during the academic year. The small, workshop-style talks are a perfect opportunity to connect with alumni, graduate students, and international scholars.

About the speaker

Sarah Brown is the Program Manager for the Northwestern University Women’s Center. In this role she organizes events and services that range from intimate peer support groups to an Annual Women’s History Month Symposium.

Sarah received her PhD in American Studies from Brown University and holds a master’s degree in American Civilization from Brown, a master’s in Liberal Studies from the CUNY Graduate Center, and a BA from Brooklyn College. Her dissertation research examines conflicting narratives of women’s mental health and emotional lives in pop culture, literature, film, and the behavioral sciences between 1968 and 1995.

She has experience in service and community building as the founding organizer of the Feminist Science Studies Mellon Workshop Group at Brown University, the Graduate Parent Coordinator at the Sarah Doyle Center for Women and Gender, an Interdisciplinary Opportunity Fellow at the John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and Cultural Heritage, a Graduate Community Fellow at Brown’s Graduate School, and a recipient of Brown’s Graduate Contribution to Community Life Award. She has taught in American Studies and English Departments at Brown and Brooklyn College.
