A Look into Mira
Abstract
The presentation will provide insight into Studio Gang’s approach to the conceptual design process, technical criteria and design, mockup testing and design implementation during construction for the Mira Tower project.
· Review design delivery methods and how the best one for the project was determined.
· Recognize how performance criteria (opportunities & limitations) affected the design intent and cost.
· Learn how critical metrics were defined and established for determining performance tests and visual mock-ups.
· Learn how a work plan was successfully developed and implemented, and how the plan was able to identify potential obstacles early on.
Bio
Harry Soenksen (pronounced Sank-sin) is a Senior Director at Studio Gang responsible for the quality control and technical oversight of each of the Studio’s projects. He has extensive experience in the management and design of projects of many scales and types.
Recent projects Harry has managed include the design of the US Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil and the Mira Tower in San Francisco. He has also led significant mixed-use residential projects in Hyde Park – Solstice on the Park, City Hyde Park, and The Shoreland. He also played a significant role in Writers Theatre in Glencoe, the Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo, and Beloit College Powerhouse. Prior experience during his almost 30-year career includes leading significant projects such as the luxury residential conversions of the Palmolive Building, The Residences at 900 N Michigan Avenue and 850 N Lakeshore Drive.
He is a member of the AIA, CTBUH, Chicago Building Congress, and a LEED Accredited Professional.
