This talk is an introduction to my two, very different (or maybe not so much), research projects: on monumental protectionism and iconoclasm during the Spanish War (1936-1939), and on intimacy, risk and safety in the context of the AIDS pandemics after effective antiretroviral medication (1996-). I'm finishing the former and starting the latter. Both can be considered an exploration on (self-)conservation and (self-)destruction with a different theoretical frame and chronological scope.
