Abstract: LIGO and Virgo have continued to make breakthrough discoveries that are testing conventional wisdom and setting new challenges for theory. In this talk I will review new results from the world of gravitational-wave astronomy. I will also describe the rich and rewarding discoveries in fundamental physics, cosmology and astrophysics that we can hope to make with the Cosmic Explorer and Einstein Telescope, which are currently being conceived to be great observatories of the coming decades.
