Description:

MultiCultural Filmmakers Collective (MFC) is currently accepting applications for our two $2000 production grants. Projects will be chosen and pre-produced during Winter Quarter and shot either late Winter or Early Spring Quarters. In the past, we’ve limited grant application to RTVF students. Now, we are expanding this process to include all undergraduates studying in the School of Communication. All multimedia is applicable; we encourage you to utilize the materials and equipment you have at your disposal in creative ways to tell a story. This year, we are excited to award a larger grant amount thanks to the generous support of alums Seth Garben (‘13) and Antonio Cavazos (‘14)!

NOTE: All projects must adhere to the RTVF department’s COVID Best Practices Guidelines. Equipment access from the Cage is not guaranteed this academic year, please budget accordingly for potential equipment rentals.

NOTE FOR NON RTVF MAJORS: Before pitching to the MFC executive board (after application), you must attach the project to an undergraduate producer or director currently studying RTVF. This may constitute a co-producer or co-director. If you’re having difficulty finding a collaborator, email nu.multiculti@gmail.com. We will happily network on your behalf.

Multicultural Filmmakers Collective seeks to nurture, promote, and ally multicultural student filmmakers at Northwestern University, as well as support student films that present multicultural concerns and experiences. This includes any perspectives that are not often represented, including, but not limited to people of color, women, LGBTQ+, and religious minorities.

Send an email to nu.multiculti@gmail.com including the following:
1. Your script (15-page max for script, 25-page max for web series). If you are planning on improvising or devising your project (such as a documentary), attach a detailed plot summary or proposal. Please remove your name from the script. All submissions will be read name-blind.
2. What’s the logline of your project? One sentence max.
3. Attach a thorough, itemized budget. Email nu.multiculti@gmail.com for examples.
4. Artist’s Statement (OPTIONAL): Is there anything you would like us to know about your project before reading it? (200 words max)
5. Doodle Link - Sign up for a pitch time!

Pitches will be scheduled for the weekend of February 6th-7th. If any of these times don’t work, please email us!
