Description:

Dr. Mónica Russel y Rodríguez joined the Provost’s Office of Institutional
Diversity and Inclusion after serving for nine years as Associate Dean at
Northwestern’s Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Russel y Rodríguez
participated in the creation of Northwestern’s Program of Latina and Latino
Studies in 2009 where she acted as Interim Director. She joined the Provost’s
Strategic Planning Committee in 2010, specifically on the Diversity workgroup.
She serves on the board for the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Rights
and was elected secretary for the Society of Senior Ford Fellows.
Dr. Russel y Rodríguez enjoys a faculty appointment in the Program of Latina and
Latino Studies and in the Department of Anthropology where she has been a
faculty member since 2000. Dr. Russel y Rodríguez earned her PhD in Cultural
Anthropology from UCLA in 1995 where she focused on Chicana feminist theory.
Her publications appear in the Journal of Chicana/ Latina Studies, American
Ethnologist, Latino Studies, among others. She has a publication forthcoming in
the anthology Voices from the Ancestors and Beyond: Chicanx/Latinx
Decolonized Spiritual Expressions (2019).
