The International Studies Program will be hosting a presentation by, current IS honors student, Leo Sainati. He will be presenting on his current project, “Cultural Overlap in Refugee Integration: The Role of Shared Culture in Shaping Refugee Integration Experiences”.
My thesis is about refugee integration, specifically about the role of cultural similarities between refugees and the host country population. By examining two cases (Jordan and Germany) of integrating Syrian refugees, I'm arguing that cultural similarities are not a prerequisite for integration, and that state response is actually more determinate of integration outcomes.
