Description:

Co-founders Brahm Dixit and Mohan Chablani introduced many in Chicago to the delights of Indian cuisine through Bengal Lancers, which opened in Chicago in 1969 at 2324 N. Clark and was one of the city’s first Indian restaurants. The name of the restaurant stemmed from a 1935 film called “Lives of a Bengal Lancer”. The menu featured Bharti Dixit’s (Brahm’s wife) recipes which were enhanced by Brahm’s extraordinary knowledge of ingredients thus, the inspiration for the Bengal Lancers Indian Cookbook.

Oolka Dixit (she/her/hers) shares two recipes from her parents' cookbook in a very special Farm to Fable. We would love for you to listen to her story, as well as a discussion about growing up in a restaurant.

Please make your own version of Sukha Gobhi and Chicken Korma (or order something similar) and enjoy it during our virtual meeting.

Oolka's presentation will be followed by sharing of our own stories and memories.

Farm to Fable is a monthly series hosted by the WSAB Diversity and Inclusion Committee. To volunteer to share your own recipe and story, please sign up here.
