Description:

“Good teaching cannot be reduced to technique; good teaching comes from the identity and integrity of the teacher” – Parker Palmer

Teaching practices have become increasingly distant from the teacher themselves. As graduate students and postdocs, we spend a disproportionate amount of time on skills, often at the cost of reflexivity on the personal nature of our pedagogical practice. In this workshop, we employ a reflection-based approach to constructing your identity as a teacher. Participants will consider the values they wish to bring into a classroom and reflect on practices that better align with those values. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to articulate values that are core to their pedagogical practice, and three practices to introduce their values into each classroom.
