"Reversing the Developmental Consequences of NMDAR Deficiency in GRIN Disorder"

Dr. Ramsey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Toronto. She earned her PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology at UNC-Chapel Hill in Beverly Koller's lab, and did her postdoctoral training with Marc Caron at Duke University Medical Center. When she was a graduate student, she developed a mouse model with a genetic deficiency of NMDA receptors caused by a knockdown mutation in Grin1. Since the creation of the mice in 1999, Dr. Ramsey has studied the physiological and behavioural consequences of Grin1 loss-of-function in mice. She began working with GRIN families in 2018 to discover treatments for patients using mice that carry disease-causing mutations in Grin1. She serves on the scientific advisory board of CureGRIN, a parent-led research foundation seeking treatments for GRIN, GRIK, and GRIA disorders.
