Pornography continues to be one of the most stigmatized yet utlized industries today. Sexual liberation movements celebrate the bodily autonomy exercised in this field yet sex trafficking continues to be a violence that moves through this medium. The diverse representation of identities and bodies expands the definition of beauty to be more inclusive yet sex workers of color are fetishized, exotified, and casted in racialized scenes.
Ethical porn is hard to embrace when most of the world still sees sexuality as a taboo topic. How can we bridge that gap? The prevalence and access to mainstream pornography (vs. ethical porn) has changed how we understand our bodies, behaviors, and beliefs about intimacy. So, how do we promote sex-positivity when pornography is the default sex ed for many? How do we get to a point where porn can be appreciated for the fantasy that it was intended to be and celebrate the powerful representation it brings to diverse desires and bodies? Professor Raymond San Diego, Sex Educator Justine Ang Fonte, and porn performers A & B will interrogate the impacts of the porn industry through an intersectional lens and demonstrate how pornography literacy can be something we talk about as often as any other form of media.
This public lecture is part of a week of events with educator-in-residence, Justine Ang Fonte.
