"Heroin, Oxycodone and Fentanyl: Opioids in Crisis"
The current opioid epidemic involves the use of four opioids in particular, leading to over 100,000 deaths a year. The epidemic is driven by heroin, oxycodone and fentanyl. On the other hand, opioid antagonists like naloxone and naltrexone save many lives. I will trace the history of all of these drugs starting with the first attempts in the 16th century to improve the side effect profile of opium up the present day.
