Description:

Abstract: Both betaNMR (beta-detected nuclear magnetic resonance) and muSR (muon spin spectroscopy) are experimental methods that can achieve low energy polarized ion or muon beam in the range of 0-30 keV, suitable for thin films. This range of energies could be used even for soft matter studies. For condensed matter physics both methods are valuable since they could give information about local magnetism with several nm of accuracy, in particular, it means you can scan in-depth via beam energy variation, close to the surface within 200 nm. It is a powerful tool for 2D physics. Recently it found perspectives for quantum computing systems studies.

Speaker: Yulia Krasnikova, Fermilab

Host: Professor William Halperin
